Saskatoon : June 2025
Part 2
Tuesday
After having our hotel breakfast we were excited to get to exploring Saskatoon. There are several things in the city that I would’ve liked to see-but this trip was family friendly. So no art gallery, university Campus walks or river walks this time round.
Nutrien Wonderhub
I had learnt of this place many years ago when I lived in Ontario, I had been deciding between moving to Saskatoon or Edmonton at the time and I remember coming across this cool children’s Museum. We got there just after open at 9am, perfect, we were the first ones in.
We were able to fully take it all in, the Small child-sized replicas of a bakery, theatre, vet, greenhouse, house, camp-site, construction area, & more. However, after 10 minutes passed, a school arrived, and another. This would become something of a theme as it happened again the next day. Last week of school field trips, something to keep in mind. It definitely made the place lively, but within minutes the place was wrecked. A relaxing place to inspire the imagination quickly became anxiety inducing for the older & younger alike.
Luckily they have a space for toddlers that my son could retreat to. It’s quite a nice space for
younger ones too. The train Set alone was a hit for my son (frequently).
Beyond the mini town, there were other spaces like the giant netting to climb, a
green room, a UV light room, and vacuum pipes.
Venturing further, downstairs, there was a large arts and crafts room with a lego table. As well as… mines! All in all a great place we could use something like it in Edmonton.
Apparently there used to be a similar (and seemingly better place in WEM called Kidtropolis. My partner recalls going as and getting ‘hired’ at the music store and getting a speeding ticket after driving a car around then fighting the ticket at the police Station (& winning).
My generation often complains about not learning life skills growing up, so I think these places could be great for that, instead of just playing SIMS!
Back to Nutrien. Wonderhub, I think With more Supervision and a cafe this place could really have it RATING :☆☆☆☆ /4 Stars
Lunch
D’Lish by Tish Cafe
I had planned for us to pack more sandwiches for the trip but When it didn’t work out I did a quick search while at Kinsmen Park (Nutrien Playland). The playland doesn’t open till 2pm and again, was severely overcrowded with School kids (who were able to on the rides). I knew we needed a calm spot to go to, so I looked for a cafe last minute and this place popped up!
It was my intention to include pictures at the end of posts, but I feel you need to see this place. We were lucky to get seats outside to enjoy the sunny weather. I love when a cafe has a wide selection of food, drinks, & baked goods AND Something unique. Like I mentioned in my last post regarding the hotel, I feel I could do a whole separate review on this Place. I love frequenting & trying new cafes so I would love to start some ‘café review’ series. All I’ll say for now is that I recommend you visit this cafe.
HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON
In the afternoon we spent a little time in the hotel pool before heading to the Cineplex across the road. I had several gift cards, but I was gobsmacked when the total price of tickets came to $50 for 2 adults & 2 kids, on a Tuesday, and after using BOGO coupons for the adults. This would’ve come to $25.50 at my local cineplex in Edmonton for 3 Tuesday tickets. Literally half price. I also had left my SCENE card in the car, and later learnt that gives 10% discount. Safe to say, things felt significantly more expensive in Saskatchewan, and I should probably go elsewhere in future. (but the SCENE deals are usually good).
With the ticket fiasco we ended up being a couple minutes late to enter the movie theatre (a first for me). I think everyone enjoyed the movie itself, it was my son’s first ever time to go to the cinema. A cartoon would’ve been better but he enjoyed it nonetheless.
Dragon burger
I knew we would do fast food after, and then I saw Burger king across the parking lot had a
dragon menu. I had the dragon flame grilled Whopper and was not disappointed. The kids’ meal dragon toys were also high quality. I rarely eat here so I’m always surprised when I remember how much more real it tastes than the ‘golden arches’.
Well, that was it for our Tuesday, we returned to our hotel room for the night to relax. I got to read a lot this trip.
Typed transcripts of notes and voice of my written audio files will be available
below – along with photos. Thanks for reading,
Rebecca ♡
